Gianna Compagno began writing her first novel at the age of ten. Every day, she carried a white binder filled with 300 pages of lined paper to school (much to the chagrin of her mother, who worried that her back may never recover from the weight). In between class time at school, she would voraciously handwrite chapters of what she hoped would be her first published novel, catching the attention of curious students and teachers alike — if only because she wrote with such a heavy and enthusiastic hand that the clicking of her frequently-broken pencil echoed throughout the classroom.

Since then, she has gathered significantly more material to inform her writings, from her studies of Sociology, the History of Political Thought, and Southeast Asian Politics at Trinity College, University of Cambridge, U.K., to her time as a teacher in Tokyo Japan, to her current role in Washington, D.C., working on some of the world’s most pressing global issues in a time of immense turmoil for U.S. and global politics.

Each of these experiences has informed her portfolio of four novels and over eighty poems, all of which are linked by a combination of cultural experience and study, political intrigue, psychological analysis, and social experiences, weaved together in fantasy realms that carry their echoes. Pieces of places, cultures, customs, and ideas that have reached Gianna all inform her work, while her formal academic studies shape the social and political systems she creates and analyzes.

She is currently seeking publication for the first time for her fourth novel, The Eyes of Cordiayari.  Explore this page to learn more about how her global experiences have inspired the world built in this novel.
